Lake Bound 2018

Lake Bound 2018!  The girls and I had a good trip to Bismarck and met up with Rochelle & Hailey.  We continued on the next day with Hailey & Koda (Hannah was at camp).  A quick stop outside Fargo to stock up on Fargo and we were headed North!  Unfortunately Mother Nature had a different agenda and we hit quite a storm.  We stopped in Climax, MN for a sugar break and to let the storm pass.  After that we followed the storm to the Lake.  Our first 24 hours was eventful as another storm hit us during the night and took our phones & power for 55+ hours.

Into the storm!

Summer Road Trip - Part 4

After almost 2 weeks in West Virginia we were on the road again.  We picked up Papa Jerry in Pittsburgh and headed Northwest to Detroit where we picked up Grandma Suz (who had flown in to meet us).  The 5 of us drove North to the Straits of Mackinac.  We took the ferry over to Mackinac Island to stay for a night.  Mackinac Island does not allow motorized vehicles...therefore the main modes of transportation are horse drawn carriages and bicycles.
We played tourist, bought amazing fudge (as it is World Famous), played glow in the dark golf and rode bikes.  It was a great 24 hours and definitely a do-over!
We continued on from Mackinac through the Upper Penninsula (the "UP") of Michigan into Duluth, MN for the night.  We only had a few hours to explore Duluth after a long drive and an early night.  From Duluth we were only 3 hours to the lake...everyone was ready to get there!

US Open at Oakmont

The Pirates game was a fantastic day but I think the best part of the trip was our visit to the US Open.  We were able to get tickets to the practice round on Wednesday and had a fantastic time.  It is much more relaxed (cameras and phones are allowed) and the girls were able to get some autographs.

Jon and Addison attended the Championship day while Quinn and I opted for the pool!  They still had a lot of fun but it was much busier and harder to find good seats.  A once in a lifetime opportunity!

Pittsburgh Pirates Game

This may have been the highlight of our visit to WV.  We were able to attend a Pittsburgh Pirates game while in the area.  It was a Sunday afternoon game and family day.  The streets were shut down around the stadium with all kinds of family activities (face painting, bouncy houses, etc).  The best part of the game (at least for the girls and their new friend Caleb) was running the bases after the game.  Pretty neat experience!
