WV

As we drove into West Virginia and stopped to mark our arrival at the first Welcome center we found, there was a buzzing that could be heard in the car over the sound of the radio.  I remembered that Jon had told us about the Cicada bugs.  This year happened to mark the 17 year occurrence of these guys.  We did not see one until the next day but you could hear them every where you went.

A few days into our WV stay we were invited to join some people Jon knows for dinner at one of the local golf courses.  It is built on a coal mine and we took a quick tour before dinner.

Summer Road trip - Part 3

I flew from Anchorage back to Minneapolis to meet up with Jon and the girls.  They had driven from the lake to meet me.  Jon took a flight to West Virginia and the girls started Part 3 of our trip.  We drove from Minneapolis to Bridgeport West Virginia...about 900 miles.

We were all happy to hit WV!

Summer Road/Air Trip - Part 2

Part of our summer plans included a 5 day trip to Alaska where I had meetings to attend.  As we sat at the lake on Memorial Day Monday (the day before we were to leave for Anchorage), Jon mentioned how nice it was to be in one place.  He and the girls decided to stay at the lake and enjoy the quiet while I attended my meetings. I missed having them with me but I know they had a blast at the lake.

I did not have a lot of time for sight seeing but we had an amazing dinner at the top of a mountain near the resort.  The highlight of my trip was on a quick trip into the small town of Girdwood to do a load of laundry I came across a mom and baby moose walking down main street.  By the time I stopped the car and got my camera out they were out of sight!

Alyeska Resort

It is a bit hard to see but at the top of the mountain is a beautiful restaurant where we had our board dinner.  We took a tram to the top and enjoyed an amazing view.

Not a bad place to have a glass of wine!

Summer Road Trip - Part 1

This summer we have decided to be a family on the move...our first stop was Minnesota for what was planned to be a long weekend.  We met up with family and friends and got a lot of work done while we were here.
Getting the dock and boat lift in the water is always a big chore.  Jon definitely has a system and it seems to go smoothly every year.  As you can see our neighbors dog, the beloved Sam was so excited to see all the kids.  He is a fun addition to our lake time!
We never know what is in store for us when we arrive at the lake.  It is very dependent on the winter and we always hope for the best.  The winter snow got the best of a boat house beam but the guys were able to fix it pretty quickly.
Time to get the boat lift out of the way so we can have a baseball game

Last Week of School

The girls had a great last week of school.  They got to go on an overnight trip to Outdoor Lab.  They had a lot of fun and it was a great experience for both of them.
Their last day of school was great, they had a nice celebration at school.  They finished 1st and 3rd grades, Addison will move up to Upper Elementary while Quinn will stay in the same class for another couple of years!
After the last day of school activities we hit the road for the summer!
Off they go to Outdoor Lab

Crawfish Boil

We brought a little of the south to Evergreen.  A good friend helped put on a Crawfish Boil as a fundraiser for the girls school.  Despite the cold weather we had a great time...
